Electron microscopy aesthetic

I really want to see if I can do some crazy lighting constructs in Unity to make it feel like we're using an electron microscope... because holy heck those are so cool. JUST LOOK AT THE PICTURES! :o

What's this lighting called again? Must ask Gray...

Story of my life... technical problems o_o

Just when I sort out my smooth mesh glitch (okay, for future reference Christine, do not run a smoothing command on both the blendshapes and the base mesh, it breaks) I find another booboo! Turns out Fillie's UV seams show up in Unity. I think it can be solved by expanding the colour outside of the UV by 1 or 2 pixels...

Fillie Textures

I started to work on Fillie's textures so she can match the softness of her environment. I also have her detail in the mouth, and fixed her back pattern to be that of a banded, immature neutrophil. Her design aesthetic draws from that particular white blood cell - I tried to give her a granular feel in her pattern. She probably came out pinker than I expected, but that's an easy fix in photoshop. :)

(The things you can achieve on major project while watching the new Bravo channel... lol)

Design precedents for characters

I had these in my semester 1 blog, but I'll post them here too.

I chose these as my precedents because of how they have real life toy counterparts. Neopets key quest had matching plushies and skylanders their figurines. I am hoping that the Cell Squad brand would be able to achieve both!

Neutrophils

Neutrophils are a type of phage - a white blood cell that eats bad stuff. But they also emit anti microbial chemicals in a process known as degranulation. They are typically first responders - they are highly motile but at the same time, very short lived. They're what's predominantly in pus when we get an infection.

They come in two forms, banded or segmented. Banded ones are 'younger' than segmented ones.

For the purposes of time and mechanics, we have omitted our neutrophil character, Fillie, from eating other cells. This is something that the other character, Luke, does. Fillie's mechanics focus solely on her degranulation mechanics.

She is also a banded neutrophil, so we gave her a young, childish personality.
